FSi ensure the correct solutions are specified and delivered to strict budgets and timescales ensuring technical specifications are met.

The FSi brand story is compelling, differentiated, and clearly expressed to internal and external audiences. We have included a company history on our website which has helped FSi stand out, emphasise benefits, humanise the brand, and enhance the technical capabilities. Company Timeline

  • 1986 - 1996
Carl Atkinson our then Managing Director spent time working at BTR Silvertown. During this period he was involved with the development, manufacture and testing of Fire Stopping products. BTR Silvertown were the one of the pioneers of Fire Stopping in those early days.
  • 1996 - 2000
Having moved to Cafco Carl was instrumental in Cafco acquiring the Fire Stopping division of BTR Silvertown.
  • 2000
Firestopit was born whilst Carl was sipping Tequilas on a beach between Porto Banus and the luxury resort of Marbella with Paul Paling.
Firestopit.com Limited was formed on 25th September 2000 and leased 6000 sq ft factory in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, UK. The company had 2 employees including Carl. Firestopit.com made its first sale on 4th November 2000 to McCartney Fire Protection.
  • 2001
Firestopit.com made sales of £437k in its first year of trading. The company embarked on EN testing in readiness for the approaching CE Marking requirements and came 2nd in the Derbyshire Small Business Awards.
  • 2002
The workforce was increased to 4 and turnover increased to £930k. Firestopit.com purchased the fire stopping intellectual property of BTR Silvertown, Trade Fireseals and Cafco from Cafco International. Firestopit.com became a sponsor of Burton Rugby Football Club.
  • 2003
Demand lead to increased production and the work force expanded. With this came another 9000 sq ft industrial unit in Swadlincote incorporating both warehouse and production. Investment was made in new machinery for the production facility.
  • 2004
The first Export sales were made to Dubai, Chile, Argentina and USA and partnership agreements were signed in these regions. The product range expanded with not only the “in house” brand but also the toll manufacture for other well-known companies.
  • 2005
Big decisions. The planned move to the new 56000 sq/ft production unit that FSi Limited occupies today was agreed. During September the business was moved to Measham and this was achieved without any loss of productivity. The move saw turnover exceed £2m for the first time. All products were 3rd party accredited through the Certifire scheme and the “.com” was dropped leaving the name of Firestopit limited
  • 2006
Export sales grew rapidly and further investment was made in new machinery. The work force grew significantly to over 16 people.
  • 2007
Firestopit followed a revised strategy, developing at least 2 new products per year. This included the development and testing to either BS or EN standards.
  • 2008
Saw 24 hour working in the production facility for the first time. By the end of 2008 we recognised the need to change our trading profile to accommodate the down turn in business throughout Europe.
  • 2009
In early 2009 we formulated a 5 year development strategy. This involved the appointment of a Non-Executive Chairman, David Dawson. With David’s back ground as Managing Director of Rolls Royce Nuclear and developer of Pride Park he was instrumental in guiding the business to increased productivity and more importantly profitability. The board sanctioned a £70,000 investment in new machinery.
  • 2010
An indicative fire test furnace was purchased and installed, assisting with the development of new products. The company invested £100,000 in machinery to further increase capacity in new market areas.
  • 2011
Firestopit created an in-house marketing division and continued to develop new product sectors and enhance the current product range. The formation of an in-house research & development team assisted with these changes.
  • 2012
Strengthening the management team with the appointment of Ben Peach as General Manager and subsequently as a board member and now Managing Director continued our development strategy. The new R & D facility was completed paving the way for the required testing associated with CE Marking. £120,000 was invested in testing the product range. Sad times transpired as we saw the passing of David Dawson.
  • 2013
Appointment of ex RSM Tenon Partner Angus Marshall as Non-Executive Chairman.. A revised strategy was adopted to follow on from the previous successful document. Etag 026 testing was completed for most of the product range and London Underground registration is achieved. CE Marking and UL classification for the most products was achieved.

Firestopit continues to evolve and a re-branding exercise undertaken within the overall business strategy has resulted in the new name of FSI entering in the market place. Along with this came the tag line Develop…..Manufacture…..Protect – our mantra in providing the professional levels of service that our customers demand. Alongside freshening up and modernising our image the re-branding will assist with developing brands in new export markets.
  • 2015

  • 2016
To cope with the expanding business and work force further investment was made. This came in the way of 3000sq/ft state of the art offices and new assembly plant, this brought around the FSi in-house engineering division. Employee investment over the years also came to fruition with Alex Ford and Luke Peach taking on new roles within the business. In October FSi purchased Firesafe and Sound Limited, giving a much needed distribution outlet in East London
